Week 54 - Saving Lives

Elders from my group

I know I'm in the saving souls business out here, but I literally saved someone's life this week. I got a call in the office a few days ago from an elder telling me their carbon monoxide alarm was going off and he wanted to know what to do. I was all like, "...UHHH, get the heck outside!" Fast forward 30 minutes and guess what? The fire department came and declared that there was indeed a gas leak in their department. Soo, I guess that pretty much means I SAVED TWO MISSIONARY'S LIVES!!!

Missionary life is definitely a million times different here in the office. This past week I didn't even do 1 minute of street tracting- it's nuts! After our day in the office, we generally have one appointment and then it's already time to go home. Our proselyting area is 40 minutes away from the office, so driving to our scheduled appointments is a real time killer. And since we fill those appointments with so many member visits, less active visits, and Gladys visits, we literally get fed every single day!

The biggest thing we got going right now is a woman named Gladys. She is from the Dominican Republic with her three sisters and is in an awkward situation. One of her sisters is a CRAZY Mormon and her other two sisters are CRAZY.. She has been coming to our ward with her Mormon sister for a while now, but hasn't been progressing a whole lot in the lessons... She is super timid! During the lessons we had with her this week, we tried to do some bonding with her to help her feel more open during teaching situations. So, on Tuesday, we made guacamole and watched a little video on charity. Then, last night, she made us dinner and then we watched Meet the Mormons together. It's obvious that she really likes being around us, but still isn't comfortable sharing the things of her heart with us.

On the completely opposite end of the spectrum, a member of the church called and wanted us to meet her in a park this week. Upon arriving, it was obvious she was in dismay. She told us some terrible things that her husband had been doing to her and she wanted to leave him!!  Even though the husband sounded like a complete jerk, we discouraged her from doing that and bore testimony on eternal marriage (the husband is technically a member). Then, we have her a blessing and made her promise she'd go talk to her bishop. It was really, really sad.

Life is good here in paradise. I hope all is well for you guys! :)
